Rep. Summers Invites Mothers & Daughters to 4th Annual Mother’s Day Luncheon, May 20


May 3, 2023 – Jackson, MS – Rep. Zakiya Summers invites mothers and their daughters to the 4th Annual Mother’s Day Lunch, featuring Keynote Speaker Fredniki White and “The Crown Act” Advocate Faith Fennidy, on Saturday, May 20, 2023. It will take place at the Jayne Avenue Community Center, located at 3615 Jayne Avenue in Jackson, MS from 1 to 3 p.m.Enjoy a meal, motivation, and a call to action, plus get your picture taken at our whimsical backdrop and a chance to win some incredible door prizes. This community event is at no cost and all ages are welcome. Donations are appreciated. You can cashapp to $zsummcash. Proceeds will benefit the Veniti A. Williams Scholarship Fund, in memory of Rep. Summers’ mother. The attire is dressy casual.Fredniki White is a wife, mother, counselor, motivational speaker, spiritual life coach, and owner of inspirational t-shirts and accessories. White serves as the Clinical Director at Mississippi Families for Kids, where she provides training and therapeutic services to families, children, and young adults throughout the state. She has dedicated her life to helping people live their purpose-filled lives, and will bring an inspirational message at the lunch.In 2018, 11-year old Faith Fennidy was expelled from her New Orleans Elementary school because her braids were said to be a distraction that violated the school’s new dress code policy. A heartbreaking video of Faith being asked to leave school went viral, causing community outrage and the school to rescind the policy. This was the catalyst for The Crown Act, a law created by Dove and The Crown Coalition to end race-based hair discrimination in schools and the workplace. CROWN stand for Creating a Respectful, Open World for Natural hair. California was the first state to pass the Crown Act in 2019. Since then, eighteen states along with Washington, D.C. have passed this law with Mississippi up next. Faith is now 16 years old and is a student advocate for Dove and The Crown Act. She turned her pain into purpose by creating Faith’s Crown Foundation, Inc. She is on a personal mission to end hair discrimination in all 50 states.This program is supported by Camille Young and 2CMississippi, and is in partnership with Rosemont M.B. Church, Jayne Avenue Neighborhood Association, and Bottom Rebuilders.
